For my individual vinyl project we had to make a three colored vinyl decal and put it on something I own. My original idea was to use a sword called the aegis sword but I couldn't find any clip art of that sword, so instead I used a sword called the monado from the same game series. It works just as well, if not better, as the aegis sword for the three color design so I decided to go with it. The sword already had red, blue, and space to put a background in so all I had to do was pick a background. I though that white would look best on my laptop so that's what I went with.
The image on the left was the clip art I was able to find of the sword and the image on the right is what I used to help with knowing what to put as different colors.
After I had that clip art, I put it in Illustrator and split it into its different parts using a 3 part image trace. After I split the parts up, I made them different colors for a visual sake and put them on different art boards.
Once I had them on different art boards, I made them all black and fit the art boards to the size of the decal and went to print it off.
After they were printed off, I set them up for application.
I ended up applying the decal to my laptop because it was looking kind of bland and boring.
What I learned from this individual vinyl project was how to work Illustrator better. I learned how to group different parts of an image if I needed to split them up. The grouping helped a ton when trying to split the image into the three different colors. I learned how to work the vinyl machine by myself. And, I learned that having vinyls on things is pretty enjoyable. I've really liked having the design on my laptop.
